Hello Seattle

Greetings from Seattle, my new home. I’ve got a wonderful apartment here courtesy of Brent and Alicia Eyler. Everybody look at the picture of Brent and Alicia and say thank you.

You’re probably thinking, Seattle? Didn’t you go to business school in Barcelona? Didn’t you magically turn up in Hong Kong?

The answer is yes. I will summarize my last two years for those who were not keeping score. I will even cite reputable sources.

-          I moved to Barcelona in 2011 to do my MBA at ESADE. It was a rollercoaster. I uncovered my passion for business journalism and amassed freelance clips, but decided journalism wasn’t a viable career choice. I perfected my Spanish only to leave Spain due to the continued economic woes there. Read more about what I learned in the MBA.

-          I came to San Francisco in 2012 for an internship during my summer vacation. I had fun in the startup world and could see myself there one day. Read about my internship.

-          I went from San Francisco to Hong Kong for an exchange term, where I took up Mandarin Chinese (你好,你要一个外国朋友?), then back to Barcelona for my final semester of business school.  Hong Kong was eye-opening and fun.

And now I have arrived in Seattle, fresh like a newborn with my suitcase and MBA. I’m working for Revel Consulting, a boutique firm that does strategy and project management for tech clients in Seattle. I’m still awaiting my first project after a couple false starts. In the interim I've been assisting on an engagement involving channel incentives for a large software company (take a guess).

The last two years were great. I formed lasting friendships with my MBA classmates and Catalan friends. I became a regular at a piano bar serving Catalan craft beer and at a dive bar with cheap self-serve drinks and unlimited popcorn. I was in the 10th row for FC Barcelona’s famous comeback against AC Milan.

On my travels, I visited friends in Tel Aviv, Paris, and Munich. At an expat party in Bangkok I was appointed Beer Pong referee. I sampled the Easter Market sausage in Krakow and took the smelly overnight train from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur.

Now I’m excited for the next chapter of my life in this cool city. I’m new to Seattle so if you have any friends here please make an introduction for me.
