Greetings from quarantine Friday

Greetings from quarantine Friday. It's the third week of quarantine in Spain. 900 people died of coronavirus today in this country, as they did yesterday. But that feels far away.

Our days are all pretty much the same. I work from the kitchen and my wife Sarah does online Spanish class plus a lot of Netflix. She's already devoured every single season of RuPaul's Drag Race, which is like eating 10 ice cream cones in a row. At first it's fun, even a little naughty, but eventually it's excessive and you get a stomach ache.

After work we exercise with Apple TV before the 8pm moment of applause. There's a cute old couple across the way that dances to the music blaring from the fire house around the corner, but I cannot manage to get their attention.

Today was sunny so we had lunch on the terrace. It's not all bad. I also took out the garbage and went to the bakery. The simple pleasures of quarantine.

I'm proud to be in Spain at this moment because there's a sense of mission and togetherness. People break the rules sometimes but they know they're getting away with something; they don't pretend that the rules don't apply to them. The government has been decisive. I think the President, Pedro Sanchez, will be able to govern for a long time.

I digress. I should mention a few details about the last few years. I'm married to Sarah and we live in Alicante, Spain. I work for Deloitte - I finagled an international assignment for a couple years. In my time at Deloitte I've been a software delivery lead and public sector strategy consultant. I'm not much of an expert in these fields but what I lack in domain knowledge I make up for in endeavor. I tried my hand briefly at journalism but it didn't work out.

I became a soccer FANATIC over the last few years. I visit London whenever I can for the footy and I used to go to a lot of games at FC Barcelona. I had tickets to EURO 2020 this summer but it's been cancelled. Maybe I'll go to the French Open in September (for the second consecutive year!).
