ESADE time
Greetings from Javier Solana's class in Geopolitics, my monthly snorefest at ESADE. Today's class is about economic deleveraging in Europe. It's actually a topic that interests me but after a long day, and with springtime Barcelona waiting for me when I get out, I can't seem to muster the energy to pay attention.
I would like to take this opportunity to share some sundy news with all of you.
- I've decided to spend the summer at a media startup in San Francisco called Fair Observer. My role is hybrid: editorial, investor pitches, and user experience. The 10 employees will live in a house together, Facebook style. It will certainly be fun and hopefully we can achieve good things. The founders of the company are 3 MBA's - two from Wharton, one from INSEAD. Who knows, after hearing from Tal Raviv about how much surfing entrepreneurs get to do, maybe I'll like it.
- I've been writing and sourcing articles for Fair Observer already. Today, one was published about the proposed Financial Transaction Tax in Europe. Next week will be an article I wrote with the gregarious and rotund economist Edward Hugh.
- From San Francisco, I'm headed to an exchange semester at Chinese University of Hong Kong. That's right, Asia! Hopefully I will be a hit. Then in Jan 2013, back to Barcelona for the final semester of the MBA.
- Being on the West Coast allows me to go to the Friedland/Neuman wedding and the Eyler/Hoffer wedding. Brent Eyler wrote fantastic short bios of all of his groomsmen, which you should check out. Come on folks, let's take this viral!
- I am dating Seza, who comes from Zimbabwe's last tribe of British colonists. She has many attributes. Chief among them, a fascination with leopards and a really endearing interpretative dance.
- A few weeks ago, Seza and I traveled a little in Italy and then Poland. I really recommend that you go to Krakow before word gets out about how trendy it is.
- ESADE is paying me 400 Euros a month to manage social media through twitter (@TheESADEMBA), Facebook, and its blog.
- I've written twice this year in The Economist's Which MBA section. The first, about the pros and cons of attending a business school that focuses less on academic research. The second deals with ESADE's fall in one major b-school rankings index.
- This weekend I will run my 3rd 10k of the year. Next week, Jorge Drexler in Barcelona. In two weeks, Uncle Howard visits!
That's all.
